Hey guys!
Sorry I've been absent here. Been dealing with a lot of stuff. I promise I'll update new stuff here as soon as I can. ;)
But right now I need to spread out a situation that happened this wednesday.
So you guys probably know my two fanarts based on the animated 80's series Inspector Gadget, "Depressed Gadget" and "Penny being Shot", both drawn back at 2016.
Both fanarts, although they're based on my favorite animated serie, have different subjects.
"Depressed Gadget" was based on dealing stuff that happened to me back at 2015, and "Penny being Shot" was an illustration I did based on my fanfiction "Broken Heart".
So far both fanarts have been getting faved by other people who liked the drawings and are also fans of the series, and one of them, which I'm going to mention on this journal, was raysay12.
The guy also commented on my "Penny being Shot" fanart, which is totally normal, but after a few hours he commented again but showing both images atached together by him, theorizing that both drawings were subjectly connected.
Here is a printscreen I took of his comment with the edited attachement.
Since he didn't asked me first, and although it credited me on his edit (but without an @ or even a link of my DA gallery on my username), it's kind of normal what my reaction was.
Another person who was also aware of his edit was my friend ButterflyBlew, who was kind enough to adress me of the situation by sending a message on Facebook.
Here's the thing, I usually don't mind people sharing my art in a way to help me reach my artworks to other people, but when it comes to reposting, especially when they don't ask permission first, and after my experience with another fanart of mine based on another series I also like, the Powerpuff Girls, which was also reposted but on Instagram and Youtube by a Powerpuff Girls fanpage, I decided myself to never accept people reuploading my artwork unless they ask me first. Why, you ask? Because most of the time the number of views and likes goes to them and not the main artists behind the artworks.
And that's exactly what happened here. This person just downloaded my two Inspector Gadget fanarts and edited them, posting the edit on his gallery, even with the credit on the description, without my permission first.
Another thing is, just for my curiosity, I checked his main gallery and surprisingly most stuff he has there are reposted artwork from other artists and also official artwork and printshots, most of them being of the anime Detective Conan, which are not credited at all for what I saw.
Of course as an artist I am I couldn't just being shut with all this, so I just answered about his edit and also about his gallery (as you can see down below).
After a few minutes he responded, giving his apologies but also giving me two choices: to download his edit and repost it on my gallery or that he would delete my artwork as I asked. As for the other artwork he reposted he just gave me that typical answear about not to worry about it and minding my own business (as shown below).
I couldn't take his answear seriously. I mean two options? Is he fucking insane by taking my answear as a joke?!
Why would I want to download his edit and repost it on my gallery? It doesn't make sense!
The second option kind of worried me, by if he was going to remove his edit on his gallery or if he somehow was going to hack my account and erase all my artwork.
In the end I didn't answear because I really didn't know what to do, not to mention that at the time I was dealing with this it was night time in my current region and I was getting tired.
Only in the morning of yesterday I saw that he edited his answear, saying that he removed his edit from his gallery but still begging to give another chance to it. The rest of the comment kept the same. After a few hours he edited the comment again but still insisting to reupload it and this time with the credits well done (as shown below).
I didn't respond to him, I mean it's obivious what my answear was going to be.
However, out of my surprise, this morning I just saw that the goddamn bastard just reuploaded his edit on his gallery, even if this time he just gave my credits correctly with the link of my main page and also of my fanarts (as shown below).
And then I checked my notifications and there there was his comment edited again (as shown below).
Please tell me if his comment sounds normal or if I'm just the only who don't find it normal. Because here's the thing, if someone is reposting artwork from other artists, not only from Deviantart but also from other social media (Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, etc.), just because they like it or for something else it's normal that I need to call them out because this is ARTSTEALING!!! So no, don't ask me to mind my own business when this is fucking serious!
And another thing is I made myself clear that I don't anyone reposting my artwork unless they ask me first and depending on they're reasons why I decide if I want to or not. My artworks takes lots of hours of working so I expect you respect it! And this goes for other artists as well!
So I'm writting this journal to spread this out. I've been tiring myself due to depression, both to real life issues and also my art profession, and I just don't want to deal with anymore bullshits like this one. In fact this is almost enough for making me give up on posting my artwork on the internet since there's no respect on artists at all, it makes me even sick.
So I ask you if you can help me spread this out and report this guy. I usually don't know how to report people who do this kind of crap to the main staff of Deviantart due to not knowing how to do it, so I prefer asking someone who are used to report artthieves here. My friend ButterflyBlew already help me giving the report and I hope you guys can do the same, not only for me but also to help the other artists who might not be aware of this.
Thank you for taking your time reading this. Any help is welcome and appreciated.
See ya guys then!
