Chapter XXX – Reviving by Memories

Back at the junkyard, Penny was still crying over her uncle’s chest for quite an hour, until Quimby got next to her, putting his hand over her shoulder, as she looked at him.

- Penny, - he said – I know how sad you are. But it’s preferable that you…

- NO! – she screamed – I’m not leaving! I will stay here next to my uncle! So don’t make me go to an orphanage!

- Penny, it’s useless of you being that stubborn. – he said – You’re uncle is dead, and you can’t be living alone.

- Well fuck it! – she said – You can’t make me go! I’ll stay here, even I end up dying!

- Don’t be ridiculous! – said Quimby already getting annoyed.

- That’s enough, chief. – said the professor – The child is suffering. The least we can do is respect her wish.

- But… - the chief got speechless.

- However, the chief’s right, Penny. – continued the professor – Although I understand how you’re feeling, you cannot live alone by yourself. It is better for you to go to an orphanage so you can have a new family.

The girl despised that, ending up screaming more:

- But I don’t want a new family! I don’t want strangers taking care of me! I want my uncle! He IS my real family!

- Penny… - the two men got speechless.

- I know he’s not dead! – she cried again – I just know! Please, uncle Gadget, just open your eyes!

Ending up with her face over her uncle’s chest again, the two men just let her alone next to the poor man again.

At the mean time, right inside of Gadget’s body, on some of the chips was a small creature, a little similar to the inspector but way more cuter, standing down on a strange covered dark place, putting its head up and looking around.

- Phew, that was close! – it said – Take goodness I’m made of wireless and could move to the chip, otherwise I would have turned into pieces by that monster. – the creature started to get up and wondering – But the Inspector got gravely injured! I wonder if he’s ok!

Without wasting time, the little creature started to run around to see if he could find something, calling out over and over:

- Inspector? Inspector, can you hear me? Where are you?

The creature ran for quite sometime, not getting lucky to know if Gadget was ok, until suddenly he saw something a little far. It ran over the direction the thing was, and once it got next to it it noticed that the thing was the child he met before when Gadget was being operated.

- Inspector! – said the creature all relieved – Take goodness, you’re here! But… why are you a child again? What happened?

The child was with his face covered over the legs and arms, crying over them and, apparently, it seemed he was starting to fade away.

- Inspector! – shocked the creature – Inspector, you’re fading out! What’s wrong?

- It’s useless. – sobbed the child.

- What? – confused the little creature.

- I’m not good at anything. – he continued.

- Wha… what are you talking about? – said the creature – You can’t just sit there and cry out! The replica is going to keep attacking!

- I suck. – continued the child.

- Come on, Inspector, snap out of it! – said the creature all serious – You’re friends are in danger!

- It’s my fault. – continued the child.

- You got to get up! – said the creature while trying to pull him up.

- I can’t. – said the child – I tried. What difference would it make?

- But you can’t let !Claw! win! – encouraged the creature.

- He already won. – said the child.

- So that’s it? – shocked the creature – You’re giving up? That’s it? Come on, those jerks can’t run away for it! You have to stop them!

The child moved his head a little up, looking at the creature with despise and saying:

- Leave me ALONE.

The creature got speechless from that, as the child putted his head back over his legs. However, by not taking anymore of watching that stubborn child acting like that, the creature acted:

- Oh, I see what this is. The greatest Inspector Gadget, just acting like a child!

By hearing it, the child just looked at the creature again.

- Why you’re not that greatest, you’re just a coward! – it continued – Running away from your fears instead of fighting them and move forward with life! Damn, if I was Sophie I would be very disappointed on you!

The child, not liking what that thing said, got up all angry, starting to shout over it:

- I’m not a coward! I’m John “Gadget” Brown, son of Jules Brown and Any Brown and the younger brother of Sophie Brown! Since the day I got bullied I decided to become a police-inspector to protect innocent people from the meanies! I studied at the most famous elementary school and got to the military class! – as he was screaming, the child was starting to grow back into a man – Once I finished my course I started to work at the Metro City’s police station, and once I got promoted I promised myself I would stop dr. Claw and M.A.D., no matter what! Not for my sister, nor Frank, but for me!

Hearing those words made the creature smile:

- I knew that the old Inspector was there somewhere!

And right behind the little creature were starting to come some light balls, each colourful like a rainbow, covering the black place and getting around Gadget.

- What’s all this? – he asked all amazed, grabbing one of the lighting balls, as it started to show an image – Why that’s… that’s me with Sophie when we were younger. – he started to look at each ball as each were showing different images – And that one is when we were celebrating Christmas! Sophie offered me a warm cloth that was too big and didn’t fit on me, although we didn’t mind. And that one is when I was beginning my first day at school! I get it now! These are all my memories, and none of them are fakes! None of them are fakes!

The joy came to the man’s face, jumping over the lighting balls and laughing out.

- I knew it! – he said – No matter how robotic I am I’m still a human! I’m still real! I’m still ME!

The happiness was so huge that Gadget even fell down over the lighting balls, making angels with them, laughing and laughing until he felt he heard someone crying.

- That voice… - he gasped, as his body was starting to react again, opening his eyes and moving his arm slowly, putting his hand softly over his niece’s head – Penny.

Surprised, the girl got up all fast and looked at him.

- Penny, why are you crying? – he asked with a raspy voice.

Penny couldn’t barely believe in her eyes. Her uncle was not dead, having his eyes finally open, as a nervous smile and happy tears came to her face.

- Uncle Gadget… - she sobbed.

The two gave an enormous hug, relieved to see each again, as Brain ran over him all happy and licking his face, that even professor Slickstein and Chief Quimby couldn’t believe it either.

- J… John! – surprised the professor.

- You’re… you’re alive! – smiled Quimby

- But that’s a miracle! – smiled the professor – Even he doesn’t have the program he still moves!

- That’s John all right! – nodded Quimby – Always stubborn that he doesn’t let himself die yet!

After the moment of happiness, Gadget looked down for a bit then turned to his chief with a serious expression.

- We have to hurry! – he mention – I know where M.A.D. next plot will be.
Damn, I was missing writing for quiet a while.

Once again, this is another Inspector Gadget fan fiction I'm writing. I was indecisively on writing a fiction of the birth of the Gadgetinis or my own reboot of the Disney movie, but I decided to write the reboot first since my brain is having ideas about it.

Enjoy the reading! ;) (Wink)

Another good chapter. :D
I like how Gadget finally stops feeling sorry for himself, by more or less arguing with his 'inner' self so to speak!
